Verb [Swedish]

IPA: /²iːdˌɪsla/
Etymology: From Old Swedish edizla, idhisla. The first part of the word is derived from the Old Swedish particle ið- denoting a repeated action also found in eda and idra, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *idi, and cognate to English ed- (cf. eddish). The second part of the word is a derivation of the equivalent of äta (< Proto-Germanic *etaną) and the Proto-Germanic repetitive suffix *-lōną, with a subsequent development -tl- > -ssl, also found in nässla and vassle.
